Barrain

Our original synopsis was

Dungeons and Dragons meets CSI in this detective story with a difference

CAID, a young military genius from Barrain, helps the wrong side to win a war. For his efforts he finds himself left to die on another world—Earth. Three years later he finds a way home. Unfortunately, SCOTT LARSEN gets dragged along with him.

Caid sets off to destroy the people he helped put in power while Scott tries to get home.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, there’s a murder hunt going on. The police think Scott has murdered Caid and is hiding out. Their evidence leads them to some very strange places.

I think we need to work on the synopsis.

Here it is, in all it’s unpolished glory. Currently up to 36,000 words.

Draft 3: The work in progress. This is the latest version. While you can see how it’s going, you can’t necessarily see what has changed as we write this particular draft. If you want to see how the story changes, check the interim drafts from the front page.

Draft 2: We don’t normally do this, but we turned the second draft into a screenplay, and actually entered it into a competion. The screenplay went through a couple of drafts in its own right, and we still feel it would make a good screenplay, but for the purposes of this exercise, we’re turning it back into a novel.

This means we have to re-type the whole thing, not something we’d normally need to do by the end of the second major draft. Don’t yet know how that will impact the story.

Draft 1: This draft is over ten years old now, quite embarrasing to re-read, and I cringe when I realise that I actually sent this off to TSR (Wizards of the Coast). It’s a PDF, and quite large to download (250-500KB per chapter). This is a story in need of a major rewrite.
